Bethesda is starting to ramp up the hype for its Starfield, its upcoming “Skyrim in space” single-player RPG. Todd Howard and the team have released a seven-minute “featurette” that offers viewers a peek at some of the game’s concept art and a wee bit of game footage showing some alien environments, a spaceport, and a few robots along the way.
The video takes a meandering look at Bethesda and all of the worlds that it has built over the course of its existence including the beloved Elder Scrolls series and, of course, the Fallout series. Having tackled both a magical fantasy world and a post-apocalyptic setting, Starfield’s space-themed action is, according to Todd Howard, the next logical step in the company’s game evolution. Art Director Matt Carofano said that the game will feature a “more realistic, science-based backing” than any other worlds the company has ever created.
Todd Howard also spoke to “step out moments” where the player views the open world for the “first time”. According to Howard, this one will feature two step out moments as opposed to most games only having one. It stands to reason that one moment may be stepping out onto an alien world for the first time while the other may center around a space walk in the heavens or the first time a player sits on the bridge of their ship. Time will tell if our thoughts are correct.
Other than that, the video provides little other information. Presumably much more is coming in the months ahead of the release of the game on November 11, 2022.
