Chocobo GP Is Out Now And You Can Try It For Free

Forget a little red plumber, Final Fantasy Fans can race off into the distance via Chocobo GP Lite.

Ever since its release date reveal a few weeks ago, we’ve been revving up our big yellow birds and getting ready to jump into Chocobo GP. This cute looking kart racer based on the escapades of an iconic yellow mount is out now on Nintendo Switch, but players can try their luck with a slimmed down version of the full game.

To get a place on the grid ahead of the rel race, Nintendo Switch owners can pop over to the Nintendo eShop and download the free Chocobo GP Lite. It’s that simple. The lite incarnation of the title still includes single player mode, the game’s Chocobo GP mode, and a small roster of characters to choose from.

Chocobo GP Lite is essentially an extended trial, with the full game unlocking all the local and online game modes, adding multiplayer, and a bunch more content to try out. For those that are confused by the idea of a Chocobo GP, think about traditional Chocobo racing, a staple of the Final Fantasy universe, but with a bit more gas. This Mario Kart esque racing sim spins out of Square’s iconic JRPG series, but I wouldn’t call it canon any more than the Chocobo Tales series is. If you want to try out this racer, grab a familiar face, and wield their unique abilities without using a blue shell then head over to the Nintendo eShop now. You can grab the lite edition for free or the fully fledged Chhocobo GP for £39.99 or local equivalent.
