Dungeons & Dragons is the sort of classic that just never seems to get old. Now, Skybound Games and Beamdog are ditching the table top to bring some classic D&D Role Playing Games to modern consoles.

The board is set for a host of epic old school encounters on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch from Fall 2019 and on through the remainder of the year. Baldur’s Gate, the Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear expansion, Baldur’s Gate II, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights are all due to hit the newest gaming platforms and introduce new players to a whole new adventure.

For those of you that have not dabbled in these encounters, each of the upcoming Dungeons & Dragon RPGs changed the way we looked at video games when they first hit home computers. Baldur’s Gate alone was credited with revitalizing digital RPGs with its massive campaign and even inspires recent games like Pathfinder. Now, as it hits the age of 20, these classic Dungeon & Dragon games have been retooled for consoles. Each of the games now has high-resolution widescreen displays, controls optimized for console controllers, new standalone content, new characters and classes, new voice sets, expanded character creation options, improved multiplayer functionality, redesigns of the UI and UX, bug fixes, balance changes and more.

Hands on

Players can don their garb and jump into game on 24 September, in NA, and 27 September across the rest of the world. Players who are used to something a bit more tactile than an enhanced console controller can loot physical editions too. Three physical editions of Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition are due to release on 3 December, in the NA, and 6 December in other mysterious lands. Each of these boxed sets will come ready and able to take on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. They will cost $49.99 each, these special editions include:

  • The Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition Pack: Celebrating the series’ 20th anniversary, the original Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and its sequel, Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition, return with all DLC and restored quest content, as well as the Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear expansion, featuring new original content developed by Beamdog to bridge the two games.
  • Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition / Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition: Two must-play games and all their DLC in one package – the chilling Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition, plus its expansions, and the enhanced edition of 1999’s RPG of the Year, Planescape: Torment.
  • Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition: The 2002 Computer RPG of the Year and all its DLC deliver 10 standalone D&D-based adventures featuring co-op and online multiplayer.

If you’ve ever considered rolling the dice, but not been sure about your character sheet quite yet, then these amazing titles could be just what you need. You can prepare for the upcoming quest on the official Skybound website.
