Hyper Gunsport is one of the many indie titles that dropped a trailer during the recent Mix Indie showcase, but if you missed the stream then you need to check out this odd cyberpunk volleyball mashup.
Due to launch on PC and consoles later this year, Hyper Gunsport isn’t just an odd sounding name for a sports sim, it’s a collision of genres and ideas that certainly demands attention. This upcoming indie might be something you missed but its bright colors and amalgamation of ideas merits a look back. In short, Hyper Gunsport is a cross of 2D pixel art, cyberpunk settings, volleyballs, and deadly weaponry. Players picking up the challenge, or just watching the trailer, will find a competitive arcade action title awaits. Competitors will need to spick a side of the 2D arena and shoot a ball over the air, attempting to deflect its trajectory and send it hurtling into one of the opposing team’s goals. Of course, your opposition will try to do the same so don’t expect it to be a total breeze. Each team is comprised of a keeper and a strike. One of these can move, playing an offensive role, while the other sits still and is the last line of defence. Each of these has its own abilities and play style, as does each team.
Players will be able to utilize a variety of different weapon, sports franchises, and play modes. Circuit mode provides an 8 round tournament, while players can also pick from versus mode and an AI tournament. This far flung future sport unfolds across 7 arenas, each with their own gimmicks and rulesets. It might not be Hutball but If laser swords are legal then I’m all in. You can find out more about this unusual mix of classic arcade and competitive play over on the official Steam Store page now.
