Dark Relics content update sets sail in Sea of Thieves

Rare has announced that Sea of Thieves has been patched to bring the Dark Relics content update into the game.  Players will find a number of new features to explore. This is part of the new release cadence that will bring significant updates to players on the second Wednesday of every month. This makes “for a predictable stream of new content to explore”.

A sea of skeletons has arisen and they have stolen “dangerous artifacts from The Order of Souls”.  These are, of course, the aptly-named “Dark Relics”.

“This month, prepare to butt heads with a few skulls as the skeleton hordes attract the ire of the Order of Souls! In a worryingly organized raid, the undead pulled up their proverbial socks and robbed the Order of numerous powerful artifacts – the ominous Dark Relics – and scarpered across the sea. Now, as part of Duke’s ongoing efforts to build bridges with (or at least rack up substantial debts from) the Trading Companies, the Order has entrusted him with special Voyages to retrieve the stolen Relics.”

During the new event cycle, players will find several things to participate in.

  • the Dark Relic Voyage that sends players to knock heads with skeletons to recover the Relic and earn Commendations. These can be traded for the Mercenary ship livery set (cannons, capstan, and wheel).
  • The Devil’s Roar Voyage for Pirate Legends is available to recover two Relics. Each of the potentially available Relics has its own currency that can be exchanged for a number of items.
  • Ritual Skulls will drop in battle that will yield piles of gold when taken to the Order or the Mysterious Stranger.
  • Reaper’s Mark chests are now a permanent part of SoT.
  • Rowboat Harpoons allow players in Rowboats to “hitch a ride ships or swipe treasure from shore”.
