Darkest Dungeon II, the darker dungeon in the dankest series, adds a free game mode and launches a new DLC on 27 January 2025.
After you think you’ve escaped the long winter months, the DARKEST Dungeon is back for more. The second installment in this series is set to add the Kingdoms game mode and drop a new DLC, called Inhuman Bondage, on 27 January. The new game mode update will come as a free update, while DLC will come as a more expansive add-on.
Kingdoms
The Kingdoms update consists of three themed adventure modules, starting with Hunger of the Beast Clan. It adds a new way to play the game after you beat the main Confessions Game mode, where players journey through a narrative and battle enemies while balancing their party and priorities. The new mode completely re-imagines this. Players will be tasked with defending the realm from incursions by all new enemy factions. Up first they will be tasked with fending off the pitiless onslaught of the rotting and ravenous beastmen! It remixes a bunch of the systems and races against time, pushing players from one Inn to another to complete their quest before time expires.
“At Red Hook we love going against the grain. When asking ourselves how best to expand Darkest Dungeon II, we were nonplussed at the conventional wisdom of simply packing in more content. Instead, we pushed ourselves to reimagine the very structure of DDII, and from that thought, experiment was born an entirely new game mode: Kingdoms.” – Chris Bourassa, Creative Director.
Inhuman Bondage II
The latest DLC expands the world of Darkest Dungeon II, with a new mini region to explore. The Catacombs invites players to plunge their stagecoach beneath the Kingdom to face a corrosive, oozing threat. Clean up the slime to obtain unique combat items and trinkets to modify your heroes and gain the upper hand in combat. A new playable hero also joins the party too. The Abomination is an appropriate powerful addition to the team with its own powers and take on the action. This unpredictable new companion joins the fray in Darkest Dungeon II next year across PC.
