David Leitch logs on to Direct The Division Movie

From Deadpool 2 to the Division in quick succession. David Leitch, director of the upcoming Deadpool sequel, has signed on to helm the movie adaptation of Ubisoft’s The Divison.

This appointment fills the space left by the previous director Stephen Gagham, after his departure from the project last year. Leitch brings a wealth of big-budget action experience, with Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde already in his portfolio. While the new directorial appointment is great news for Ubisoft’s hope of a high grossing feature film, we wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t know much about The Division. The game, while in a decent enough state now, failed to make a massive effect on public consciousness and made almost as little narrative impact. Set around the outbreak of a pandemic, it charted society’s collapse and threw players into a massive online FPS.

Even less is known about the script for the big screen outing of this game, but Leitch might find a blank slate to his liking. The history of video game adaptations is inconsistent, to say the least and Leitch may have some room to make his own mark as he directs a cast that includes some massive Hollywood stars. Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhall and already signed on for this feature, and things aren’t looking too bad for the flick. Our only concern is Ubisoft Motion Pictures, because Assassins Creed.
