Motion Twin has announced their action platformer Dead Cells will leave Steam Early Access and launch to full release in August 2018. Announced for a 2018 release earlier this year, Dead Cells has just received the “Baguette Update” reaching a significant milestone on their path to a complete polished game experience on both console and PC. The update brings major changes to itemization upgrading, legendary item drops, item customization, and a revamp of the user interface amongst other things.
Dead Cells is described as a “rogue-lite, Castlevania-inspired, action-platformer” that lets you explore a sprawling ever-changing castle of deadly challenges. You are in control of a failed experiment on a mission to unravel the mysteries of an ever-changing seemingly cursed island. Motion Twin calls their combat tough, but fair with responsive controls that will offer a demanding, visceral, and cathartic action game.
Dead Cells Feature List
- RogueVania: “You got your rogue-lite in my Metroidvania! Hey, it’s tasty RogueVania.” This means side-scrolling heart-pounding action with the ever-present threat of permadeath.
- Souls-lite combat: Pattern-based bosses and minions, weapons and spells with unique gameplay.
- Nonlinear progression: Unlock new levels with every death, take a new path. If you tire of fighting through the sewers, then take to the ramparts and battle your way through that path.
- Exploration: Secret rooms, hidden passages, and charming landscapes await your discovery.
Dead Cells is available in Early Access on GoG, Steam, and for 33% off (for a limited time) on the Razer Store. It will be coming to Xbox One, Switch, and PlayStation later in 2018.
