Digital Extremes Have Announced A Brand New action-MMORPG Called Soulframe

Warframe developers Digital extremes took Tennocon weekend in a slightly different direction with news that the studio are working on a. Brand new game, a fantasy MMO called Soulframe.

Introduced with a 5 minute cinematic trailer, a blog post, and a long form interview in the Washington Post, the news that Digital Extremes are ready for a new game is certainly unexpected. The studio has been hard at work expanding Warframe with the recent Angels of the Zariman release and upcoming The Duviri Paradox expansion. Now Soulframe presents an entirely new landscape and a very different story.

Taking a more mystical approach to this narrative, Soulframe will borrow the hub and instance play style that works so well in Warframe, but wis certainly set to tweak the combat. The team behind the title has confirmed that players can expect a much more melee focused combat experience, with a slower and more deliberate pace. You’ll need to keep your wits about you, however. In an hostile environment that has it out for you, even the ground beneath your feet will shift and contort as the days pass. Steve Sinclair, who will be leading the project, confirmed during the aforementioned interview that this new adventure will share Warframe’s focus on PvE experiences and procedurally generated environments, so we expect this ever-shifting world to be part of that.

If you are wondering what sort of mythical world the development team at Digital Extremes is building. Soulframe Creative Director Geoff Crookes noted that:

“With Soulframe’s worldbuilding and thematic elements, we are really looking to go back to our childhood favorites like Never Ending Story and those elaborate fantasy worlds. Our team has a fond love for Miyazki and Princess Mononoke where there are recurring concepts of nature and humanity colliding and we’ll be exploring a lot of those themes through our own lens while playing with ideas of restoration and exploration.”

For fans of Warframe looking to check out this new title, there’s already a website in place and the teaser trailer is definitely a good place to start. As soon as we get more details we will let you know.
