During D23, Disney’s fan event, the company took everyone by surprise. It seems that Lenovo and Disney are about to rock the augmented reality space with a new headset. When you mix in a pair of Star Wars themed games, it seems AR is heading in bold new directions.
Disney’s buy-in to AR
We do not know a single thing about the headset other than it will use smartphones. There is no name for the unit, nor is there a release date. However, it may be a good bet that release may happen in, or around, the film debut of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In addition, a release in late 2017 places it in a very good spot for holiday gift giving.
So what do we know? So far, at least a few Star Wars games are probably incoming. These include one based on “holochess”, one that would be a real time battle game as well as Jedi Challenges. You will not be disappointed to hear that the latter game includes wielding a lightsaber.
