Players in EvE might need to keep an eye out for something a bit unusual happening in their favorite MMO this month when the Doctor Who x EvE event arrives.
The BBC’s long-running sci-fi franchise is about to bring some timey wimey adventure to long running space MMORPG EvE when a newly announced collaboration lands on 13 January. The announcement that players a will hopefully get a look at the Tardis potentially kicking about Nullsec came last night from developers CCP and was accompanied b a teaser trailer too. This isn’t the first time that the Doctor has dipped into video games, but it’s the first crossover of this type that we can remember and the Reykjavik studio behind EvE seem to be hyped about the upcoming activities, with Bergur Finnbogason, EVE Online’s Creative Director noting that this is something of a natural collaboration:
“2022 will be off to an (inter)stellar start with EVE Online x Doctor Who. We are always pushing the boundaries of what is possible in EVE Online. Collaborating with BBC Studios gives us the opportunity to pay homage to an iconic series that has inspired us at CCP. We hope you’ll join us in New Eden on January 13 to see what happens when galaxies collide!”
For players that dip into the new event, this isn’t just a bit of promotional decoration. EvE pilots will be able to dip into a new Gallifrey themed area where they will be able to search for artifacts left abandoned at the end of the Great Time War, a crucial and devastating part of the Doctor’s past. Each of these pickups will provide clues allowing Capsuleers to track down and face off against the Daleks. These menacing killing machines have nefarious plans for the EvE universe and CCP is promising a battle for the ages along with the usual Doctor Who themed rewards and cosmetics, because who wouldn’t want a bow tie. Bow ties are cool!
