Developer Bioware and publisher Electronic Arts are back with a new blog post for the upcoming action RPG Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This time the discussion is centered around player progression and companions, and how the two systems interact.
The game’s protagonist, Rook, will be able to choose between 3 classes: Mage, Warrior, and Rogue, each with 3 unique specializations, and progress to the maximum level of 50. The character will be able to have a unique playstyle turned to deliver coordinated attacks alongside their Companions.
Receiving a level comes with acquiring a Skill Point to place within the Skill Tree. The types of skills are denoted by their shape within the constellation, ranging from active abilities and ultimates to passives. Note that Skill Points can be refunded (individually or the entire skill tree) at any time, with no resource costs, and spent elsewhere. Don’t be afraid to experiment!
In addition to abilities, there will also be a plethora of equipment to find or buy throughout Thedas, including weapons, armor, and accessories. Caretaker’s Workshop in the Lighthouse allows you to upgrade and enchant your gear. Note that you can further upgrade the Caretaker’s Workshop to unlock even better improvements. Rook can also transmogrify their armor and casual wear to match your ideal style.
Companions have their own progression system, somewhat simplified compared to all of Rook’s available choices. embers of the Veilguard each have their own Levels, and each level gained grants them 2 Skill Points.
You can take two Companions with you to tackle missions. Each Companion has their own set of gear to manage, which can be upgraded and enchanted at the Caretaker’s Workshop, as well. Companions also have Primer and Detonator abilities that can combine with each other or Rook in combat. Each Primer has a matching Detonator. Using the correct combination, a Detonation will trigger – dealing increased damage across an area and increased stagger.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will launch globally on Thursday, October 31, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam (Deck Verified), EA App and Epic Games Store.
