Dragon Quest Walk Is Coming

Dragon Quest Walk

Dragon Quest Walk is the latest augmented reality adventured set to invade mobile phones. Following the success of Pokemon Go, Square Enix has announced a similar version of its own Dragon Quest franchise is coming to Japanese mobiles.

Square Enix has just confirmed the news, although it isn’t the first time that the publisher has mentioned a Dragon Quest mobile title. The initial news of a Dragon Quest mobile title meant most of us assumed we’d get a 2D side-scrolling RPG. It turns out Square Enix had vastly different ideas. Square has not unveiled much information on the new title, save a trailer and some screenshots. However, that is plenty to go on.

What’s Different?

While borrowing from the pet battling Nintendo smash, Dragon Quest Walk is still immediately a Dragon Quest title. It instantly looks familiar and appears to include a range of quests that you can pick up from NPCs. A turn-based battle experience rounds up what we can see from the trailer and, again, should be easy enough for fans of the franchise to get to grips with. You can check out the trailer for yourself below.

For those of you that haven’t heard of Dragon Quest, you can be forgiven. While Dragon Quest Builders, and the upcoming sequel, are breakout hits in the west, Dragon Quest is a huge franchise in Japan. 11 games make up the core of the franchise, the latest bowling over our reviewer, and pulling in tens of millions of dollars.

While we know that this title is coming to iOS and Android devices next year, we have no idea about a western release of an interesting alternative to Pokemon Go. If you are interested in checking out more detail then the full reveal stream is available at the official Japanese Square Enix Youtube channel. Otherwise, keep an eye here for more details as we get them.
