Afterburner Studios has announced that its “phantasmagorical action RPG roguelike”, Dreamscaper, will officially land in Steam early access on August 14th. The game’s tag line is “Dream. Die. Wake. Repeat.”
During the game, players take on the role of Cassidy who is pulled into a never-ending cycle of dreaming and waking where she engages in hack’n’slash battles with “fiendish nightmares”. The goal is to uncover the mystery surrounding her life. In the dream state, she interacts with nightmares to overcome them and take part in unique events and challenges each night. Everything goes in her dreams which allows for innovative combat and multiple options to defeat enemies.
Once awake again, you can interact with people in Cassidy’s life to forge new relationships and piece her life events together, unlocking upgrades that will impact her next dream and make her stronger. But as soon as Cassidy falls asleep again the cycle continues, throwing you into her beautiful, haunting dreamscapes to confront and defeat her nightmares head-on in a rich combat system where careful positioning, exact timing, and quick reflexes are rewarded.
