A new update from Funcom talks about epic survival MMO Dune Awakening and building Arrakis.
After wandering the dunes and taking a look at the tourist traps in Arrakis, the developers behind this huge new Dune spin off sat down to take us all through the process of building the desert world. Funcom’s Chief Creative Officer Joel Bylos and Executive Producer Scott Junior took to the camera for a new video that will give us a better look at how an absolutely epic playscape is brought to life.
This version of an iconic series is set on a world that is aesthetically aligned with the recent Dune movies. While it presents an alternate timeline, the vision is clear and presents a different perspective that fans of the silver screen will still recognize. A range of environments are shown off here, after another recent tour.
The deep dive shows off a range of desert landscapes soaked in sunshine and lifesaving shade, thanks to Unreal 5’s advanced lighting effects. This shade will be crucial in helping preserve your water, assuming you don’t get eaten on the way across the sand too.
The latest video from Funcom dips into details on survival mechanics and combat systems at play among the sands. Uniquely, this isn’t all about staying hydrated. While your suit will be incredibly important, picking a faction, choosing when to fight, and dealing with the consequences of siding with the Harkonen, Atreides, or Fremen. While this could mean a powerful ally, there’s also hints that desert survival is easier when you lean on the Fremen’s knowledge.
From massive worms, housing systems, to an exciting take on combat, the latest developer video on building Arrakis is worth a watch if you want to get a sense of what’s coming in Dune Awakening.
