Dune: Spice Wars Drops More Details In Lengthy FAQ - overview of base in the desert

Dune: Spice Wars just posted a lengthy FAQ that drops a Carryall full of details about the upcoming sandy strategy.

Dune is back in a big way, and the inspiration for pretty much all of modern Real Time Strategy gaming just unveiled a bunch more information on what players can expect next from the franchise. The newest entry into the Dune series, Dune: Spice Wars, is due to begin Steam Early Access in 2022 thanks to publisher Funcom. Long before that happens, however, developer Shiro Games made sure we know what we’re getting into when the Emperor calls.

In a lengthy FAQ posted to the official Steam page, the team behind this title confirmed that Dune: Spice Wars is staying true to its RTS heritage, for the most part. This isometric looking return to Arrakis will still revolve around the gather, build and conquer mentality we’ve come to expect but will add other elements. This includes exploration, territory control, economic growth, combat, politics, and spying, while the pacing allows for events to be paused and rewound, making the entire affair something between the expected strategy and a 4X scenario.

The update digs into an oasis of information, detailing a number from desert design decisions to the color of the House Atreides uniforms, and other influences that drive the new game. Based on the overall tone of this information, it seems that while Shiro Games will refrain from reusing assets from their previous title Northgard, you can expect to see as much design impact from this as the original Dune PC campaigns. Although this battle for Spice is due to arrive via Steam Early Access sometime in 2022, players will get a limited slice of content. Multiplayer will be the mainstay at first but we can expect new houses and a solo campaign should make it in time for launch.

Dune: Spice Wars should be on your to do list this year if you even vaguely remember the originals, or if you just want to try something a bit different in the RTS arena. Find out more on the official Dune: Spice Wars website.
