Ex-Blizzard Founder Opens Dreamhaven Game Company

Dreamhaven

Ex-Blizzard co-founder Mike Morhaime has revealed his new game company called Dreamhaven located in Irvine, California. Dreamhaven is not a game development studio in and of itself but offers developers funding and guidance opportunities. However, within Dreamhaven, two in-house development studios have opened that are led by a veritable who’s who of ex-Blizzard staff members.

The mission statement reads as follows: Welcome to Dreamhaven. We love epic adventures, sharing stories, and creating lasting memories with family and friends. So we’re building a new game company based on our shared values and relentless passion for making meaningful player experiences. We hope you’ll join us on this new journey.

Dreamhaven is home to multiple game development studios and a central support team. This includes global operations, publishing, and partnership functions that can also help independent developers build and launch their games.

Moonshot Studios is led by former Hearthstone and Starcraft 2 developer Jason Chayes. Other developers include former Starcraft 2 and Heroes of the Storm developer Dustin Browder and former Hearthstone creative director Ben Thompson. According to IGN, Moonshot is rounded out by “a group of other seasoned developers”. At this time, no information is available about what type of game Moonshot is working on.

Secret Door is headed by former Hearthstone, Starcraft 2, Heroes of the Storm, and Warcraft 3 developer Chris Sigaty. Ex-Hearthstone game director Eric Dodds and ex-game director of Heroes of the Storm Alan Dabiri have also joined up as well as “a team of other veteran developers”. As with Moonshot, no information is available about what Secret Door is working on.

It will doubtless be quite a while before we know anything concrete about the games the two companies are working on, but you can be sure we’ll be keeping an eye out. In the meantime, keep an eye on the Dreamhaven official site to learn more.
