Kitfox Games, the publisher behind Boyfriend Dungeon, and developer Bay 12 Games have announced a new twist for an iconic game. A new beta channel for Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode is available to try out now.
This huge update expands the base building fantasy adventure, giving players the opportunity to head out and explore a realm where civilisation is set to fall. Anybody leaping in to test this new addition over the next few months can create a brand-new character and entertain themselves with an RPG styled escapade.
Normally, players building their own fortress would scrounge and survive whatever the world throws at them. Each roguelike run in this simulated world tracks the rise and fall of new civilizations, personalities, creatures, cultures, etc. Across the infinite hours of gameplay, there’s little chance to really get out and see outside. Now, players can freely roam the rich simulated world they have made a home in during their Fortress Mode save or start fresh in a newly generated world. On top of the new stories that await, this update also includes new music for the game by the talented Dwarf Fortress composers Dabu and Simon Swerwer.
We don’t have a firm release date for the finished version of Adventure Mode, but this sounds like a fantastic new way to explore the reimagined version of Dwarf Fortress. In this mix of construction management and roguelike mechanics, players can guide your dwarves as they search for wealth in their generated mountain. Survive ecological dangers, hostile outsiders, and political challenges as you explore a title that’s steeped in history. Check out the Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode by selecting the beta branch on Steam. Just head to properties and then betas from Dwarf Fortress in their Steam library. Anybody looking to try out this title fo the first time can pick it up on Steam or Itch.io.
