F-Zero X Is Flying Into The Switch Online Expansion Pack This Week

F-Zero X, the classic N64 anti grav racer, is set to come crashing onto the Nintendo Switch as part of the console’s Expansion Pack on 11 March.

You might be forgiven for forgetting that the Nintendo Switch got an Expansion Pack last year. The add on for the Japanese game giant’s online subscription offering didn’t exactly blow us away with its offer of a few emulated N64 titles. Things look like they are changing for the better with the announcement that classic anti gravity racer F-Zero X is about to join the online library of games available to owners of the pack.

F-Zero X is due to drive into action on 11 March 2022 and will, as you’d guess, require the Switch Online Expansion Pack to play. While this will allow online players to pick up and replay their memories, choosing from over 30 cars and taking on mods such as Time Trial and Grand Prix. The newly ported version also has the added benefit of updated vehicles and the option to engage in online multiplayer with up to three other friends online, at least according to Nintendo’s tweet.

While we’re still not entirely on board with the expansionist model that Nintendo took, doubling down on the online subscription required for cloud saves, games like F-Zero X, Majora’s Mask, a Mario Kart course DLC, the upcoming addition of Mario Golf, and more might make it seem a little less painful at $49.99 for a full 12 months. If you’re getting ready to go fast, check the trailer for F-Zero X above and find out more on the Nintendo website.
