Fantasy Flight Games and Bethesda have announced that a Fallout board game is coming soon. Yes, you’ll be able to take the Wasteland to your tabletop!
Fallout Board Game
The game will feature its own unique story and game play mechanics. Interestingly, up to four can play, however there is also a single-player mode…in a board game! Each player chooses an explorer. Choices include your standard Wastelander but there are more exotic characters such as a member of the Brotherhood of Steel. Each roll of the dice (there are 3) sends characters off to a new part of the board and into a scenario. Each scenario takes its inspiration from the entire series of games. There’s a lot of lore to choose from.
As with any great RPG, the goal is to find gear, raise the character’s power and locate weapons that all mean survival. As with the electronic games including Fallout Shelter, characters level and progress using SPECIAL: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck. Dice rolls also play a part by increasing a stat or providing an “advantage” at the right time.
While a lot of games promise that every decision matters, it appears that Fallout’s board game means it for real. Each decision has an impact on the rest of the game. Once a choice is made on how to proceed, a number of cards are drawn that flesh out the next scenario. What this means is that every play through of the game will be different than the one before — or the one that comes later. Cards offer players different quest outcomes, alternate encounters, different alliances, enemies and rewards.
