Final Fantasy IX IS Getting An Animated Outing

Final Fantasy IX, yet another classic RPG in this iconic series, is getting an animated outing.

While many of you might still be busy finishing up your time with Final Fantasy 7: Remake Intergrade and the new INTERmissions DLC, it seems Square Enix still has plenty more coming for fans of the massive RPG franchise. If you’re looking for something a bit more hands-off than the new Endwalker update to FFXIV, then prepare to return to Final Fantasy IX when it gets a new animated series.

According to the website Kidscreen, the new animated adventure is in development by the Paris based Cyber Group Studios but is not in full production as yet. The European studio is still putting the last few details into a project bible and plans to begin pushing the series to broadcasters in the coming months, according to Pierre Sissmann, CEO of Cyber Group Studios. This means that we don’t know a ton about the final product, the length of the series, or the episodes. We do know that the plan is to pitch the animated adventure at 8-13 year old, so maybe don’t expect something that will be playing anybody who picked up Final Fantasy IX the first time around.

Final Fantasy IX is the ninth game in the main Final Fantasy series and launched onto PlayStation platforms back in July 2000. The central premise puts players in the middle of a war between nations in a medieval fantasy world called Gaia. Playing as the thief Zidane Tribal, things go a bit sideways when you kidnap a princess and team up with a growing band of characters to defeat the queen and architect of this war, Queen Brahne of Alexandria. With millions of copies sold in its launch year, critical acclaim, and plenty of nostalgia at its back we’re sure that this will probably get a look. In the meantime, you could spend the lead up to release watching DOTA: Dragon’s Blood or counting the days until League of legends: Arcane arrives on Netflix.
