Fortnite, the battle royale game that seems to be on just about every mobile is ready to creep into your wallet with the announcement of a brand new monthly subscription.
Titled, the ‘Fortnite Crew’ subscription, this monthly upgrade to the free to play battle royale game will be available across multiple platforms as soon as Chapter 2 – Season 5 of Fortnite launches. Sitting alongside the current Battle Pass in the Fortnite store, Fortnite Crew provides a range of benefits that take the Battle Pass and build upon it. Anybody forking out for the new monthly charge will need to find $11.99 / €11.99 or local equivalent and will grab the following items in game.
- 1,000 V-Bucks per month. Yup, as part of Fortnite Crew you’ll get in game premium currency. This boost to the in game wallet will allow the Crew to pick up items from the in game shop, but will mostly only make it as far as emotes and harvesting tools, with more premium skins costing upwards of 1200 V bucks at times.
- Talking of outfits, The Fortnite Crew pack also include s a monthly outfit bundle. This includes an exclusive bundle of a new Outfit plus at least one new matching accessory (like a Glider, Pickaxe, or Emote), which are yours to keep permanently.
- Finally, the seasonal battle Pass is also rolled up into this monthly subscription, meaning as long as you have access to a Crew subscription then the premium in game progression path is still open during Seasons.
We’re somewhat torn by the monthly subscription model that Fortnite is introducing. On one hand, it seems like a straight forward model that’s in line with the sort of charges that we drop into MMORPG most months. However, Fortnite is not MMORPG and we will have to see if it’s really worth the cost. You can find out more about the Fortnite Crew monthly subscription on the official website now before it launches on 2 December.
