Genshin Impact Version 5.3 Introduces Three New Playable Characters: Mavuika, Citlali & Lan Yan

The developers of open-world fantasy RPG Genshin Impact are teasing three new upcoming characters to join the roster in Version 5.3. Some of them are familiar faces for those who have played the Natlan story, such as the Pyro Archon Mavuika and “Granny Itztli” Citlali, but there is also a completely new character: Lan Yan.

Let’s take a closer look at each one!

Mavuika – Pyro

The latest playable Archon to join the roster, Mavuika is indeed fiery enough to be the blazing sun of Natlan. She proudly bears the Sol Invictus Constellation and the Ancient Name “Kiongozi”, which means leader. She who shoulders the title of the “strongest,” she who respects all beings, be they strong or weak, and treats all equally. For this, the people love her, sing her praises, and follow her willingly, with all their hearts.

“Even in the complex tapestry of Teyvat’s night sky, such a dazzling constellation is seldom seen. Its scorching radiance is as though it wants to burn a hole in the very fabric of the sky itself. When it finally becomes a shooting star streaking toward the horizon, that fire will kindle even the deepest, coldest nights into brightest day.” —Sighed by “B” during a divination

Citlali – Cryo

Cranky but caring Granny Itztli took part in the Archon Quest to save her grandson, Ororon. Now it’s time to put the slippers back on and join the fight personally.

Over the past two hundred years, many a terrifying rumor has been born from the horrendous defeats she has inflicted upon all challengers, eventually granting her prestige sufficient to silence wailing infants. But if you should dare set foot in her remote abode, you will find it a right mess of wine bottles and snacks, and shelves stuffed to bursting with light novels — and you would be forgiven for thinking of her less as some frightening old hag in her lair, and more as a hermit in her nest.

“I’ve always thought that Citlali was chief material, and that she’d take that role on eventually. But two hundred years on, and she’s still as unenthused about going outside as ever! It might take a figure more fascinating than those light novels for our genius shaman to take greater interest in the real world — but is there really anyone who can do that?” — Mavuika

Lan Yan – Anemo

Of course, the latest events taking place in Natlan don’t mean that the rest of Teyvat stopped to exist. Elsewhere in Liyue, the denizens are preparing for the upcoming Lantern Rite festival, and it won’t be quite the same without some fresh faces. Enter Lan Yan.

Whether playing by the stream, gathering vines for her craft, frolicking with small animals, or sitting in the forks of tree branches weaving, Lan Yan has always loved roaming the forested mountains. Like a swallow, she flits between the wilds and her home, so swift and nimble that even her own family rarely knows where she is.

“Hmm? You came looking for me? Have a drink of water while you catch your breath… You didn’t bring any? That’s fine, have a sip of mine!”
