EA and Codemasters have unveiled a new twist to the traditional F1 racing sim, putting fans in the driers seat with a VR showcase.
Unveiled just ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday, this thrilling look at the latest feature from EA’s F1 driving sims gives fans of the world’s top tier motorsport a chance to experience every bump and turn of the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit up close. The brand new teaser video features a run around Canada in the cockpit of the Martin AMR22 car, while the hands on show are those of local hero Lance Stroll.
EA and Codemasters are both well aware that this is something of a big deal for F1 fans, describing the new gameplay:
VR revolutionizes F1 22 on PC and takes the race weekend to an entirely new level,” said Lee Mather, F1® Senior Creative Director at Codemasters. “From the claustrophobia of sitting in the cockpit to the intensity of lights out as 20 cars accelerate towards the first corner. This is as close to Formula 1 racing as you can get without being on the actual grid.”
I’ve got to admit, this does seem very appealing as a casual fan of the sport, but not everybody will get the opportunity to sit inches from the tarmac. The VR component of this game will only be available on PC, when it arrives on 1 July, and I’m not entirely sure that Codemasters will quite capture the tribulations that Lewis Hamilton is having with his car right now. This is the first chance we’ve had to get up close and personal with this side of the F1 game, ahead of its 1 July grid launch. While the rest of the release roster won’t get to jump into the cockpit, EA F1 will come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Origin, and Steam when it gets going. Players picking u this new sim will find themselves right in the center of the action, from pit stops to red flags as they take on a redefined F1 experience. You can find out more about this upcoming racer on the official website now.
