Steel yourself for robot action with the indie rhythm game Steel Century Groove
Indie developer Sloth Gloss Games has announced Steel Century Groove, a wild new twist on the robot battling genre. Placing pilots into the cockpit of a steel monster and exploring a world populated by machines of war, it unexpectedly pirouettes into a dance battle!
If you’ve visited Gamespace before you’ll know that I’m always ready to get in the Gundam, but this isn’t quite the same as the Zeon wars. Set in a modern cityscape this genre-bending battler finds the world reeling from a legacy of war. Giant mecha roam the landscape, an imposing silhouette that could wipe out the peace at any moment. However, the worst you can expect is a noise complaint when they strike up a dance battle. Players picking up the challenge must assemble a squad of mecha dancers, challenge every rival they lock eyes with, and compete for a championship trophy. Instead of blowing a lump out of each other, these unique robots can utilize a unique set of moves with each machine, bashing buttons at the appropriate time to bust some moves. Instead of conforming to the usual onscreen prompts, pick the best move mid-battle. With a free-form dance battle, a set of unique mech builds, the option to bring your own soundtrack, and a mysterious post-apocalyptic world, what more could mecha fans want?
Shinji never had this much groove, and this interesting mashup of ideas is set to launch on PC via Steam in 2025. Check out the action-packed trailer and head over to the official Steel Century Groove Steam Store site for more.
