God of War – Early Concept Art Shows Egyptian Mythology

God of War Concept Art

God of War director Cory Barlog has been on hand during Devcom to talk about the making of the game. He shared many interesting behind-the-scenes details, development issues and even concept art that has never been seen before.

According to Cory Barlog, the team has started the discussion of the new God of War game soon after the release of God of War: Ascension. The team has been split when it came to choosing the place and setting for the game as both cases were incredibly popular.

One side wanted to send Kratos and his son to Egypt, while the other preferred to explore the Norse mythology.  Cory Barlog had to make a decision and decided to go with the Norse.  Below you can find some of the featured concept art:

Cory Barlog then went on to admit he had a hard time convincing the team that Kratos had a kid. During the development, the team faced a lot of pushback and resistance when the testers would complain at the game moving away from its roots and forgetting the legacy of the series. Many didn’t like that ex-god of war has completely changed his behaviour and was being an errand boy for Freya.

More about God of War:

His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… And teach his son to do the same. Kratos is a father again. As mentor and protector to Atreus, a son determined to earn his respect, he is forced to deal with and control the rage that has long defined him while out in a very dangerous world with his son.

God of War is out exclusively for PlayStation 4.
