Boundary, the outer space FPS, is set to join the Steam Next February Fest and is launching a free playtest.
Get ready to go orbital and bring your best sidearm as developer Surgical Scalpels climb on board the latest Steam next fest schedule and prepare to unlock a free playtest for Boundary. In a major move that will see this astronaut FPS open to all, Boundary will kick off a free playtest between 21 February and 28 February 2022. The free to play session comes ahead of the game’s full launch out of early access later this year and includes a bunch of features that players can try out.
In addition, anybody jumping into the playtest can grab some free loot. Everyone who tries out the Boundary demo and signs up at the official site will receive free Tiger New Year skins for their participation. While it might make you’re EMU suit a bit flashier against the backdrop of space, there’s it’s a tad more fashionable than the drab white skins available for new recruits.
For a glimpse at what’s to come, the team behind this arenaless shooter released a new trailer, teasing the chaos that occurs when astronauts attack and highlighting some of the features that are coming to this Boundary event. For anybody that missed the earlier outings with Boundary back at Gamescom or EGX back in 2019, you can still take on a very different sort of competitive shooter. Taking the traditional idea of an arena shooter and flinging it into near Earth orbit, Boundary adds a 3-dimensional battlefield. Threats come from all angles and Boundary makes astronaut combat more akin to dogfighting than traditional stand your ground scenarios. The fast paced action still includes the same sort of class mechanics as land based shooters like Overwatch and Team Fortress 2, with an additional layer of weapon customization that allows players to upgrade and modify weapons to best suit their playstyle with stocks, grips, scopes, barrels, and ammo types. With tons of tactical options and an unpredictable battlefield, Boundary could be the space based getaway you’ve been looking for.
