XSEED Games just announced that Granblue Fantasy: Versus has a release date. North American audiences can take on this adventure on 3 March 2020.
If you were busy fighting your way through the weekend, you might have missed the news about the hotly anticipated title that is just about to spring itself on Japanese console owners. Now, we know that the wait for those of us in the west shouldn’t be too arduous. The news confirms that North American PlayStation owners can attack this brand new twist to the Granblue RPG series via the Playstation Store and in a physical format. We don’t have detail on a European release date yet but it is unlikely that this massive fighting title is likely to make European players wait much longer.
The Story Mode
If you haven’t heard of Grandblue or stumbled upon the anime over on a streaming service then you might want to take the next couple of months to acquaint yourself with the franchise. Granblue Fantasy: Versus is likely to be one of the biggest beat em up titles of the year and it is something of an unexpected venture. Developed by Arc System Works, the same team that put together the iconic Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, Granblue Fantasy: Versus takes the hit RPG and brings it to life as a furious beat em up. It features a whole host of colorful crewmembers, all fighting it out to find the true champion of the sky. Power, skill, and spirit will all come together as a cast of fighters bring their unique fighting styles and powers to the battlefield.
Apart from the obvious pedigree of Arc System Works, Granblue Fantasy Versus stands out among its peers with an RPG mode that brings a brand new story to players. This interesting feature incorporates deep RPG mechanics. Going in solo, or teaming up online or locally, players take on waves of enemies and Primal Beasts as they progress through a range of cutscenes. Characters can be customized using an upgrade system that will touch on the Granblue Fantasy series existing systems.
Of course, the whole thing looks gorgeous. Even if you live the genre but just aren’t top tier beat em up material, the RPG option gives fans of the Granblue RPG something to take on and enjoy in this title.
