Gris, the award-winning title by Nomada Studio is about to arrive on mobile platforms this August.
Gris popped up on the Apple App Store as a pre-order recently, without any particular warning. Slated for release on 22 August, this version of the game looks like the only version of the title to hit mobile devices as yet, with no Android app on the horizon, and will require an iOS device or later to play.
Published by Devolver Digital, Gris is available now on Windows PC, Nintendo Switch and macOS. It first hit gaming platforms back in 2018 and certainly bowled over critics. It follows the fate of a girl, named Gris, as she makes her way through a world of color and light and watercolor. This platforming adventure manages to explore some deeply evocative themes of trauma, life, death, and survival without having to even resort to traditional dialogue. We don’t want to spend too much time giving away the plot as it’s best experienced fro yourself. Suffice to say Gris bagged a bunch of gaming awards and our own Bill Murphy described it as
“Gris is nothing short of gorgeous, a blend of hand-drawn characters and lush watercolor effects. It’s a perfect thing to point to whenever someone tells you “games aren’t art”. A relaxed, but not always easy puzzle-platformer”
before giving it a 9.5 score. Our review copy would set you back a bit more than the iOS version, however. The $4.99 price for the Apple-compatible version makes this quite a favorable prospect but you might want to find a quiet coach to play this on your morning commute. It is guaranteed to move even the most stoic hearts. Gris is available for pre-order now on the App Store. You can check out more about this game over at the official website or via our review.
