Guild Wars 2 is getting an update on 27 June, and it looks like we’ll all be learning a little something about the Jade Wind.
ArenaNet is about to head back into the past, but not through the Mists. Instead, the latest update to this hugely successful MMORPG is about to get digging, again! The Bellevue studio behind this Tyrian escapade dropped a teaser, showing off snippets of the coming update, along with some minor detail about what we will get.
A social post confirms that Captain Thess and his Serpent Clan are about to find survivors of the Jade Wind, an epic event that struck hundreds of years ago. The teaser video for the chapter seems to confirm that players will be heading down below the Surface of Cantha, the title’s latest major land mass, and sinking down through the Petrified Sea. That probably means we’re more likely to grab our archaeology tools than snorkels.
Prepare to experience a piece of Canthan history: Captain Thess and his Serpent Clan set out to find survivors of the Jade Wind and encounter a growing evil beneath the petrified sea. The Silent Surf fractal comes to Guild Wars 2 on July 27. pic.twitter.com/QBOMqIG7Os

While there’s not a ton more detail about what’s coming, we do know that the Tuesday patch will do more than add some story content. Players can expect a new Silent Surf fractal, welcoming eager PvE types to take down something a little more troublesome than a Strike Mission, but less problematic than a Raid. This is the first fractal to grace Guild Wars 2 since the Sunqua Peak instance, so we’re excited to see what it drops us into. Hopefully the events of the Jade Wind. Check out the trailer above, and head over to the official Guild Wars 2 website for more and to check out What Lies Beneath before this follow up arrives.
