In a surprise deployment, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary just dropped on steam. Yep, the original Halo is back on PC!
Last night my time, and while the world wasn’t paying attention, developer 343 Industries and publisher Microsoft pushed Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary onto the front lines and put the new old halo game in the hands of PC players. While we knew that halo was coming to PC, and several tests were ongoing through the opening months of 2020, the arrival of this reinvigorated title was something of a surprise to us here at Gamespace. Available as part of the Master Chief Collection, the second of six Halo experiences heads back to the original release of Combat Evolved and injects a suite of PC enhancements that should make the experience new all over again.
Originally released on XBOX, the very first one, back in 2001 Halo: Combat Evolved was possiblmy the killer app for this platform and dragged players into a futuristic first-person shooter as part of an interstellar war between Humans and an alien race known as the Covenant. The 26th century proved fertile ground for Microsoft and the title is largely considered a classic.
Now the classic game gets the following upgrades for PC players:
• PC Settings/Optimizations: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is now optimized for PC and looking better than ever at up to 4k UHD and at 60+ FPS.* Other PC native settings include customizable mouse and keyboard support, ultrawide support, FOV customization, and more.
• Campaign: Experience the second chapter in the Halo saga and fight your way as the Master Chief through 10 unforgettable missions.
• Anniversary Features: Toggle between the remastered graphics in the Anniversary edition and the graphics from the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign.
• Multiplayer: Continue your Halo adventure with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary’s iconic multiplayer featuring an updated progression system and over 19 unforgettable maps.
If you miss the days of Red vs Blue or remember losing most of your college time to late night Halo sessions then this it’s probably time to find that Master Cheif helmet that you stashed away and get ready to fight your way through the Covenant once more. Whether Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary fares as well as the reincarnations of other classics like Doom, is yet to be seen. Head over to the Stam Store page to check out the details and pick up the Master Cheif Collection to get into the fight.
