Hamsterdam, Muse game’s new rodent fronted adventure launches today and its brilliant Kung-Fu hamster is about to win your hearts and clean up the streets.
Coming to Steam, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android Hamsterdam is a brilliant bright little project from Muse games that we caught back when it came to EGX Rezzed 2018 and I’ve been eagerly waiting on launch ever since. After beginning life as a side experiment and utterly smashing its Kickstarter this cute John Wick wannabe is about to clean up the streets of his home town today. After the vile Chinchilla Marlo invades your peaceful town and kidnaps Grandpa, it’s time to take back Hamsterdam for the good and decent residents of this quaint town.
Hamsterdam is a mechanically simple arcade brawler that follows the adventures of a hamster on a mission. It relies on rhythm and precision to execute a range of hamster-fu combos, beating back the mobsters that now run Hamsterdam. As you swipe and tap your way through a series of back street battles, you’ll also explore a handful of overworld maps and encounter a host of increasingly difficult boss battles. Whether you are busy reacting to the attacks of the Vermin Gang or dodging bombs, Hamsterdam proved to be utterly amazing when I tried it earlier this year.
While Hamsterdam does rely on some speedy reaction times to master the art of hamster-fu, it is incredibly cute. The bright 3D graphics and quaint stylized lowlands aesthetic make for a charming experience. You’ll even get to customize your hero with a range of cosmetic rewards. I didn’t think Pimm the hamster could be cuter until I added sunglasses. Hamsterdam is out today on Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, and PC via Steam. It will set you back around $9.99 or local equivalent and you can find out more about the title at the official website. Alternatively, you can wait for our review because I am buying this.
