Have a spare $2,000? 144Hz 4k HDR G-Sync Monitors are here!

Acer Predator

Delay after delay didn’t set the folks at Acer back.  The world is soon to be graced with a 4K HDR 144Hz G-Sync monitor.  If that doesn’t blow your mind I’m not sure that anything will.  The Predator X27 from Acer is officially up for preorder and I’m sure the people who don’t mind the first-gen tech are already getting their credit cards ready.  Newegg is listing the new display at $1,999 with a ready-date of June 1st.

Newegg is limiting the monitor to one per customer and, surprisingly, the price tag hasn’t swayed customers – they’re already out of stock.  This isn’t too surprising given the premium specs of the monitor:

  • Panel: AHVA
  • Resolution: 3840×2160
  • Viewing Angles: 178°/178°
  • Response Time: 4ms
  • Brightness: 600 nits native, can reach 1000 nits
  • Refresh Rate: 144Hz
  • Backlighting: 384-zone backlights
  • Adobe RGB: 99%
  • HDR: Full 10-bit support
  • Refresh Tech: G-Sync

What really surprises me about these monitors high demand is the fact that a single 1080Ti isn’t even enough to drive 4k@144Hz, and SLI support is so hit or miss these days that two might even fail to the do the trick.  I’ll be surprised if the 11 series (20 series?) cards rumored for June are going to be a big enough leap to drive this monitor to its max potential, but I’ve been wrong before.  You can find more information about the monitor on the Acer Predator X27 product page.
