The developers from Unfrozen are back with a new blog post dedicated to upcoming turn-based strategy Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era. Following the game design philosophy overview, this latest message is sharing a look at the various game modes included in the game.
When it comes to a HoMM game, things never end once the campaign is over. There are a number of game modes to partake in that would satisty any taste.
“People play strategy games in all kinds of ways. Sometimes you want a hot seat match with a friend. Or a huge map to explore for several days solo against AI. Or a tough multiplayer battle against a pro. Or a dive into the story, focusing more on the world and characters. People are different — that’s one of the awesome things about the HoMM community.”
Single-player modes are presented by the campaign, random maps, and custom maps created in the map editor. Note that unlike the previous games of the series, the campaign will include all factions’ stories. The first act will be available in the Early Access version of the game.
On the multiplayer side of things, the game will include three fully functional online modes in the Early Access: Classic, Single-Hero, and Arena. For the first time in the series’ history, online multiplayer will feature matchmaking (just press a button and clash with an opponent online), player profiles, ladder — all the QoL features that make it a smooth experience.
For those truly looking for the olden era, the game will also include the good old Hot Seat mode. This classic mode allows one to play Heroes against a friend from one computer.
