Hi-Fi Rush is the latest game from Tango Gameworks, and the developer behind The Devil Within is certainly changing the tempo. With a brand new hero, a blistering set of combat experiences, and some dialogue that feels like it’s straight out of Scott Pilgrim vs the World hi-Fi Rush is everything we want to play, and it’s out today.
Unveiled during the Xbox and Bethesda Direct a little earlier today, Hi-Fi Rush stole the stage with a blistering introduction to the world, and an impeccably cool trailer too. Featuring a wannabe rock star with a robot arm and a music player implanted in his chest, Hi-Fi Rush is described as “an all-new action game where everything you do syncs to the beat.”
Rather than simply fall into a regular rhythm like the excellent Crypt of the NecroDancer or Soundfall, this outrageous cell shaded saga pits the game’s hero in a battle that builds the music. When grabbing your guitar arm and beating gup faceless robots, devastating moves and stylish combos influence the beat. The better players flow with this soundtrack, the more powerful and compelling those attacks and abilities become. It’s like one big interconnected record.
In between blasting away goons, you’ll rely on a host of friends, companions, and an adorable little robot cat to take down bigger problems, infiltrate a corporate headquarters, and take on massive boss battles. A multitude of distinct zones stands in the way of this escapade, each influenced by a distinct type of music, and all of it looks utterly gorgeous. We’re off to stick it to the big music moguls and try out Hi-Fi rush. You can try it now on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
