Forget dropping nearly a thousand dollars on a gaming chair. Ikea and ROG are set to bring a new range of affordable gaming furniture to gamers everywhere.
Set to launch in China first, with western stores ready top receive their official gaming stripes later next year, this brand new line of gaming furniture from Sweedish front room giant IKEA and Asus ROG might very well usher in something of a change for gamers looking to quickly set up their rig with appropriate gear. Aimed at bringing the comfort of gamers to a new level, according to IKEA, this collab will bring a lineup of 30 items to stores when it hits China in Feb 2021 and should hopefully be more than just a few extra stickers on top of the usual JÄRVFJÄLLET.
IKEA and ROG designers and engineers have already begun the process of putting together this new range of gaming styled accessories, using several workshops together with professional gamers and gaming lovers in Shanghai to explore home furnishing needs of gamers and identify the list of functions needed to secure high-quality gaming experiences at home.
While we don’t know the full extent of the incoming furnishings, we expect that Asus ROG will have a heavy influence when it comes to items like gaming chairs, while IKEA has some serious experience putting together anything that can be easily flat-packed. Beyond desks and chairs, IKEA has also highlighted the term accessories repeatedly, meaning we will see more than just a bunch of big-ticket items hitting the floor next year.
While I’m not averse to any excuse for a trip to the IKEA food court, this announcement seems like a well-timed follow up to more big-budget collaborations. Logitech and Herman Miller’s recent gaming chair comes to mind. It’s likely we’re going to be checking out the range when it arrives in the west so keep an eye out here to find out if I escape IKEA and how much RGB ROG add to any potential gaming trashcan.
