Developer Unfrozen and Heroes Take Turns’s Ana have shared a new Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era devlog dedicated to Templates. Over 5 minutes, the viewers will be walked through this critical feature, why it is necessary for both PvE and PvP to work, and more.
A Template is a combination of map settings that decides how rich a map is, what shape it takes, and how many towns and other locations and objects will be present. An important decision for Unfrozen was to create a good template that, in turn, can create a randomized map following the tradition of HoMM3.
If you want to dig into the technical aspect of things, the developers have previously shared a blog post, outlining how templates and random map generator work. You can find it here.
