Gamescom Opening Night Live set the stage for a bunch of news last night, including the first sneak peek at the Honkai: Star Rail x Fate/Stay Night crossover.
Gacha gaming giant HoYoverse has announced that its turn-based combat adventure is set to get its first big-budget crossover. The publisher graced the stage of Gamescom’s opening Night Live showcase to reveal a bunch of new updates, including the arrival of the hit anime series Fate/Stay Night (Unlimited Blade Works) to Honkai: Star Rail.
The announcement came with a new trailer for passengers of the Astral Express, providing at least a little more detail than the logo that’s been doing the rounds on social media. We now know that Fate’s Archer will appear on the interstellar train that ferries players from planet to planet during their journey. That doesn’t tell us a huge amount, but it seems to suggest that the Nameless don’t just traverse the normal space, and we can expect more fallout than just a bit of Otaku excitement.
The newest trailer also features Feixiao, The Xianzhou Yaoqing’s Merlin’s Claw, and one of the Seven Arbiter-Generals. New faces are accompanied by a return to Xianzhou Luofu, and an eventful exit to the Penacony arc. You can check out the trailer in all its glory above. “Speaking of the Merlin’s Claw, these shining streets are ceaselessly drowned by her awesome tales and magnificent deeds. This guest here asked: Won’t it get boring just hearing about her glory alone? Heh? Well, dear guest, I think you underestimate the speed at which our general performs these feats of legends, so take heed and listen up!”
The news of a Star Rail x Fate/Stay Night crossover is far from the first of these endeavors. Open-world RPG Genshin Impact welcomed Aloy to Teyvat during its early days, with varying levels of success. Fate is a wildly popular franchise among anime and manga aficionados. The fantasy series finds Mages battling for the fate of the world using the spirits of iconic heroes, and could end up working surprisingly well.
We’ll find out if that actually happens, and more about the crossover soon. Until then, jump into the latest version of Honkai: Star Rail via the official website.
