InXile nets 4.5 mln from Gumi for a survival VR RPG

InXile

VentureBeat is reporting that InXile Entertainment (makers of the rad Wasteland 2 and soon Wasteland 3, Torment, and more) just secured 4.5 million in investment from Gumi (Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius) to make an open world survival RPG in VR.

From the VB article by the awesome Jason Wilson:

The unannounced open-world survival RPG, InXile CEO and founder Brian Fargo said, is based on one of the studio’s existing worlds — so it could be riffing off Wasteland, Torment: Tides of Numenera, or The Bard’s Tale (though it could also be Hunted: The Demon’s Forge, a fantasy take on the cover shooter that InXile made for Bethesda Softworks in 2011). Fargo’s interested in open worlds like those found in Ark: Survival Evolved, but InXile wants to add more RPG elements.

Fargo goes on to talk about Mage’s Tale, InXile’s first foray into VR, and how well it was received by Gumi. It seems Fargo wants to make a VR MMO-like game akin to ARK, but that it’ll pull from the studio’s existing IP. Consider us very intrigued. If Ripcoil is any indication of the kind of immersion you receive from VR games with a lot of movement, this one could be great.
