Is DeepMind AI going to Beat Starcraft 2?

We’ve seen enough post-apocalypse features to know how things go. Give the AI access to Global Thermal Nuclear War and bad things happen. Thankfully, as Blizzard and AI pioneers Deepmind announce an upcoming Live Stream, the only thing we need to worry about is if it rolls Zerg.

Coming this Thursday, Blizzard Entertainment are bringing together their iconic Real Time Strategy and one of the worlds leading AI groups and it’s all happening live. The event will be broadcast across the official Starcraft Twitch channel and DeepMind’s own YouTube page between6pm-8pm GMT. It will follow on from DeepMind’s previous progress, with an AI that could take on some basic strategies. Now the AI experts are about to share more information on their research.

For anybody who hasn’t heard of DeepMind, the London based AI team have been around since 2010 and take neuroscience inspired approach to machine learning. Their generalized AI is not built to beat one task but learn with little input. The results are quite something too. As one of the innovators of the industry, the DeepMind AI has already chewed up classic games like Breakout and Space Invaders. Now, are they looking to turn over the world’s best Starcraft 2 You will have to tune in to find out more about DeepMind’s progress while I’m busy filling up my end of the world generator and eyeing the toaster suspiciously?
