2024 is off to a great start when it comes to finding a favorite video game. Between blockbuster releases like Horizon: Forbidden West and surprise hits like Palworld, the first quarter of the year has been great for gamers. In this article, we take a look at what we believe are the five best games of 2024 so far. Do you agree?
Helldivers 2
One of the surprise hits of the year, Helldivers 2 brought the fun back into co-op shooter in a way that few other games have in the past few years: friendly fire in a fun way to blast squad-mates being just one of the reasons why this game has got so many active players as per Steam. Add to it great world-building on the lines of Starship Troopers and responsive and tight combat – all come together to deliver one hell of a game. Many popular websites -like GamesHorizon – one of the most popular news and game guides websites have also covered the game extensively with a rich number of Helldivers 2 guides and features
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
What Square Enix started with Final Fantasy VII Remake – it continued and made the scale bigger in the sequel to the top-rated and beloved games in the popular Final Fantasy series. The set of activities to do in the open world is mind-boggling, and while some of it does make us wish that the game could have been tighter and more focused – the great combat, the grand sequences, and the superb graphics that accompany everything else make this one of the best games for 2024.
Palworld
A sleeper hit that no one was expecting to become as big as it did, this game, which a lot of people either welcomed or dismissed as ‘Pokemon with guns’ at one time, boasted of the maximum number of players on Steam – and also helped establish record player numbers on Xbox. This survival game makes for great fun playing with friends – and has managed to find its way into the top games of 2024 so far.
Dragon’s Dogma 2
Dragon’s Dogma 2 does not have convenient, fast travel – a feature that has become a standard offering in any open-world game. And that, conversely, is one of the main draws and appeals that has made Dragon’s Dogma 2 receive genuine appreciation and popularity among gamers. Starting out from the safety of a village into the unknown – even horsecart carriage rides can be subject to raids and creature attacks has helped bring that sense of adventure back into play – something that was sorely missing in open-world games since Elden Ring. It helps that the pawn system and various vocations also feel distinct, as do the variety of quests, NPCs, and loot to find in the world that makes Dragon’s Dogma 2 one of the best games in the genre – and covered by a lot of websites including GamesHorizon – which again has a dedicated page for Dragon’s Dogma 2 quests and guides.
Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth
The game that combines the two protagonists in the Yakuza series – and continues on the crazy, dialed-to-11 turn-based combat that was introduced in Yakuza: Like A Dragon, the game is an improvement on almost all counts – the combat is nuttier, the different jobs and the special attacks for each are absolutely hilarious, the map is more extensive and includes two cities, the storyline is mounted on a grander scale and touches the right emotional notes as well: the game is a winner and a must play – and is more than likely to find itself in the top games of 2024 list even at the end of the year.
