John Carter: Warlord of Mars Video Game Announced

John Carter: Warlord of Mars, the sci-fi franchise with something of a mixed history, is about to become a video game.

Remember John Carter of Mars? Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc and FNCPR are working to wipe that ill fated movie franchise from memory with a new video game based on the John Carter: Warlord of Mars source material. Set to bring the red planet to PC and consoles, this mage of the future, from the Tarzan novelist, might be over 100 years old but the team behind this project are looking to bring us a decidedly up to date adaptation of the John Carter legacy.

The Prelude To Mars

Developed by Tanglewood games and featuring a fully realized vision of Joh Carter World, this new video game will find John Carter fighting nazis in 1945 at the end of WWII. The gameplay will centre on the soldier John Carter, working on a mission to find Hitler’s secret projects general, Hans Kammler. Kammler is experimenting with a new technology that ultimately transports John Carter to Mars, known to its inhabitants as ‘Barsoom’. This updated twist on the writings of Edgar Rice Burroughs is already in development with a teaser trailer and very early alpha assets in place. Check it out above. The fledgeling game also has two BAFTA winners on board. David Elliott takes the lead role of Carter, Brian Bovell as Tars Tarkas, and Kezia Burrows playing the Princess of Mars, Dejah Thoris.

John Carter: Warlord of Mars is due to hit Kickstarter in around 20 days, in late April.
