Jurassic World Evolution: Return to Jurassic Park Review

It’s 2020 and Kelley is starting off the review year by going back to 1993. Returning to Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna to rebuild the original Jurassic Park so we can share with you our Jurassic World Evolution: Return to Jurassic Park review.

This update centers around Dr. Hammond convincing Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill,) Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern,) and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) to return, reclaim, and rebuild the destroyed Park. If successful then open the towering Main Gates to the public. To reach this content you must play the prior Jurassic Park Evolution campaign.

Yes, I really enjoy these movies as well as the building management simulation game genre but have never played the base game so I was thrilled to try the game from the beginning. By the time I got to the Return to Jurassic Park campaign this review revolves around I had sunk my pixel teeth into playing god breeding dinosaurs. Sent out expeditions to parts of the world researching genetics and played the ranger part extensively medicating, repairing, feeding & photographing each species. My favorite parts of this game are watching the helicopters fly in while folks are walking the paths I personally orchestrate. The storms are phenomenal – my first tornado left a heck of a mess but it was worth it and the dinosaurs themselves are so detailed and realistic!Jurassic World Evolution: Return to Jurassic Park Review 1

Playing along with the campaign you unlock more building assets, types of dinosaurs and the campaigns themselves. This process isn’t anything new or exciting but you’re doing this in a Jurassic world which naturally makes playing this game worth any effort. Frontier Developments are creating a very robust building simulator portfolio with the likes of Planet Zoo or Farming Simulator but I can’t help but feel they are missing an even cooler opportunity not implementing more cosmetics to Jurassic World Evolution: Return to Jurassic Park. Imagine if we could pick colors for vehicles, buildings & flora? Imagine if genetic manipulation could be how customizing dinosaurs could begin with color enhancing. I’d also like more leisurely activities, restaurants, children’s entertainment, hotel activities, and sitting areas to really flesh out each map to suit your own aesthetics before relying on any mods from fellow players. The Jurassic World Evolution: Return to Jurassic Park expedition feature also has the potential to be a strategic way to earning money and reputation however it seems this fantasy game has yet to really find its wings.

Jurassic World Evolution: Return to Jurassic Park has the potential to be one of the greatest escapes but right now is just a pit stop collector’s item available on Steam, Playstation, and Xbox.

Jurassic World Evolution: Return to Jurassic Park Review 2

Jurassic World Evolution: Return to Jurassic Park is not just for Jurassic Park movie fans or those who get a non-physical kick out of dinosaurs but is also for those who enjoy realism and  watching their map grow and flow. Jurassic World Evolution: Return to Jurassic Park has all the ingredients to keep a player engaged but seems stuck in the past with game mechanics not just story-line. The save features/list needs to be available from the start menu. It would also be great to be able to keep up to each save. The save feature also glitched often so I had to replay content in a number of places to try and move forward but even with these hiccups the realism of Jurassic World Evolution: Return to Jurassic Park is next to none as you drive around as a ranger getting to know every dinosaur and the terrain you can easily change to suit your Jurassic imagination.
  • Fun, nostalgic story line with interesting captions
  • Very realistic art work
  • Beautiful environmental artwork
  • Perfect game to collect if you love the movies
  • Save features not always working properly
  • Unable to pause game play while building
  • Not able to access all unlocked items as you move between campaign updates
  • Cannot access photo-mode outside of the rangers jeep
  • Not enough entertaining strategy to making money
