Just Shapes & Beats Digs Into Shovel Knight

Shovel Knight is about to get a shiny new Shovel as a brand new update brings the sound of Shovel Knight to this awesome rhythmic title.

Just shapes & Beats, the neon-drenched pixel tune escapade that puts players squarely in the role of an adventurous shape, is getting a new update on 4 December. The rhythm game by indie developer Yacht Club Games is now taking on a very different type of platformer for this update. The title that normally uses striking angular graphics and bright primary colors, squeezing them into a 2D plane is taking on the iconic Shovel Knight.

Players who already have Just Shapes & Beats will get a total of four new tracks to add to the existing mixtape. Each of these additions remixes a classic Shovel Knight track and are all inspired by Plague Knight, Specter Knight, King Knight, and Shovel Knight themed tracks.

  • Danimal Cannon – Strike the Earth! (remix)
  • Rainbowdragoneyes – Flowers of Antimony (remix)
  • Kubbi – In the Halls of the Usurper (remix)
  • Shirobon – La Danse Macabre (remix) <— BRAND NEW BOSS

Each of these extras can be played randomly in challenge mode, unlocked in the playlist or make use of your Amiibos. Nintendo Switch Owners can grab the new tracks by tapping the respective Shovel Knight Amibo to unlock each track. According to developer Berzerk Studio,

“If you own any of the Shovel Knight Amiibo you can unlock their respective tracks by tapping them on the stick”

If you’re as hyped for more bullet hell musical action and retro-themed garden equipment as I am then we will see you on the dance floor for this free update. For any of you that didn’t catch the release of Just Shapes & Beats in 2018, this rhythm game suffers from an excruciatingly good electronic soundtrack. Contributions from Chipzel, Bossfight, and Nitro Fun make up some of the 20 odd tracks and 35 handcrafted stages that blew us away on our initial review. Just Shapes is out now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. Check out more about this title at the official Berzerk website and take a glance at the latest news on Shovel Knight over on the Yaught Club games Website.
