Key Revelations from the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase

Meta Quest Gaming Showcase 2022

Facebook, or should that be Meta, is pinning its hopes on 2022 finally being the year when virtual reality enjoys absolute adoption by the mainstream gaming community.

At its recent showcase of games to be released in the months to come, Meta detailed what Quest 2 owners can expect – and it looks set to be an exciting and eclectic year ahead. One of the most eye-catching trailers was that attached to the official Ghostbusters VR game, which will allow players to slip into the famous overalls and look to bag themselves a ghoul or two.

That was just one of a number of key reveals on the 2022 roadmap, so let’s take a look at some of the other highly-anticipated games that Quest 2 users can look forward to.

Among Us: VR

Schell Games have been a key figure in the development of the VR gaming space, with titles like Lost Recipes and I Expect You to Die proving incredibly popular with players. And they have confirmed via the Meta Showcase that they will be bringing cult favorite Among Us to the Quest 2 later this year.

As ever, players take on the role of crewmates or imposters, trying to complete their missions and vote out the ‘bad guys’ (or, in the case of imposters, ensuring that the crew comes to an untimely end). With online play allowing up to ten players to get involved in a single game, Among Us: VR could be a platform-defining title.

NFL Pro Era

The Quest 2 will be the home of the first official NFL game to embrace VR. NFL Pro Era allows you to step into the boots of a quarterback, learn how to plan offensive moves, read the opposition’s defense and ultimately advance to the Super Bowl. The game will even feature real-world NFL stats for the most authentic gaming experience.

Incredibly popular in the USA and Canada, American football is beginning to enjoy global appeal – more than 112 million people around the world tuned into Super Bowl LVI earlier this year. That commercial appeal has seen the NFL expand its reach into new areas, and they now lend their brand to the John Madden franchise of video games – for many years, they had rejected any involvement in the sector.

Other forms of gaming have also got involved, with the 1st Down slot title available at free spins no wagering casinos like Leo Vegas, which uses an array of American football visuals to increase authenticity. So, it seems a logical progression after conquering several other types of gaming to set sights on the potential of VR and Meta.

Cities: VR

For aspiring town planners or even those with a maniacal side, Cities: VR will enable you to design and build your own urban metropolis, enhanced by stunning virtual reality visuals. All of the decisions are yours to make – from public services to transportation networks, so you can build a utopia for your residents or make their lives a misery… it really is up to you (and your current mood).

An update of the popular Cities: Skylines game, many people have spent hours crafting the neighborhood from heaven… or hell.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

The Walking Dead will make its VR return with its Saints & Sinners storyline. Chapter 2: Retribution release will once again see players fighting for survival amongst the walkers and the rebels, and developer Skydance Interactive is promising an ‘even more intense and gruesome adventure.’

All things considered, it looks set to be a fine year for Meta’s VR hardware.
