Kill la Kill – IF, Our First Impressions

KILL la KILL - IF

Kill la Kill – IF is a fighting game with an arena like staging. The demo dropped today and I’m here to give you our first impressions of it.

What’s In A First Impression

In the demo, we got a chance to sample the Story, Versus, and Cover Challenge mode. The story mode had a lot of cutscenes which contained a lot of humor and style just like the anime. Now, when I say sample for story mode it really is a sample, the experience we had was Satsuki Kiryuin chapter and it was just the tutorial fight. If you really want to get a good grasp at playing it is better to do Versus or Cover Challenge modes in the demo.

Versus

In the demo we are limited to four characters to play with; Satsuki, Ryuko, Ira, and Uzu. Each character has different traits and of course, their playstyle is different. It is really easy to chain combos together one after the other for some characters. Their attacks are just that fluid. Other characters like Ira have slower attacks and possess more of a take damage and dish it back out type of playstyle. The animations overall are really impressive and feel true to the source. When anyone loses a round in versus the opponent who won health does not automatically regen for the next round. Kill la Kill – IF will be a game of skill when it comes to versus mode.

Cover Challange

Cover Challenge mode is a mode where you are timed on how fast you can beat 100 Covers in a brawl. This mode, I would say, is great for learning character combos as the Covers in the demo are not that aggressive. It is a fun mode to test your skills and try to beat your best time. I expect during the story mode we, as players, will have to fight groups of Covers in a brawling type scenario. Other than this there was not much else to the demo.

We’re looking forward to seeing more of the game on release. Really want to get a chance to play some of the other characters and see how they differ in style from the four we got to try in the demo. The most memorable moment from this demo for me was the music when Ragyo Kiryuin showed up in a cutscene, love her theme music. These are our thoughts on the demo for KILL la KILL – IF. Check out the play guide below that Arc System Works released yesterday if you would like to see some of the controls.
