The most unexpected twist in strategy gaming is coming to console later this year with the launch of Kingdom Eighties
After announcing a new world on PC, Kingdom Eighties is going to cram the latest in the Kingdom series onto PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Revealed as part of the MIX Direct Spring 2023 Online Showcase, this news dropped alongside a new gameplay trailer that just oozes eighties nostalgia.
While the Kingdom micromanagement series might be used to exploring feudal territory, king and queens make way this time around for a more urban setting. Channelling the same sort of throwback love that saw Netflix show Stranger Things spawn its own video game, this console creation brings a new set of challenges. Playing as the Leader, a young camp counsellor who must protect the town from the relentless attacks of the mysterious Greed. The neighbourhood kids will be at your side, and you’ll also find some new friends along the way: The Champ, the Tinkerer, and the Wiz will lend you their skills and support in battle. Along the way you’ll wander through an age where plenty of us oldies were busy loitering around street corners, riding bikes out into the great unknown and sitting around in your pyjamas while the morning mecha cartoons played out.
This tale of four unlikely heroes and their friendship is an unexpected trend for Fury Studios, but the new settings, and gorgeous artistry mean you can whittle away those summer night recruiting the neighbourhood kids and managing their skills to grow your teenage territory.
