The Kojima State of Play announcements are in, and it looks like the studio isn’t out of ideas yet.
State of Play brought a double dose of news from Kojima Productions last night. The standout studio brought us all news from the upcoming Death Stranding sequel, and an unnamed action-espionage adventure.
Death Stranding 2
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach might sound like a surreal slice of tropical adventure, but the second journey in Kojima’s broken world certainly didn’t paint itself as a laid back getaway last night. A new trailer introduced the world after, and it’s just as b enigmatic as you’d expect. With Sam still alive and the UCA a little more connected, the scope of this follow-up goes beyond the edge of the previous game. Humanity continues to teeter on the edge of extinction and the Death Stranding is far from over. Players picking up the challenge will experience a new narrative, old faces, new threats, and a gorgeous set of landscapes to traverse, thanks to the power of the PlayStation 5. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach sees Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker return to Hideo Kojima’s genre defying universe. They will be joined by Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Academy Award-winning film director George Miller.
New Title
During team blue’s regular State of Play announcements, Sony also confirmed that Kojima Productions and the Japanese gaming giant are set to partner on a brand new title. Described as an action-espionage game, not a lot of detail was confirmed. While we know it will land on the PlayStation 5, there isn’t a date or even a a name for it quite yet.
“Yes, today, I’m excited to announce that we at Kojima Productions are creating a brand-new action-espionage game,” said Hideo Kojima. “Preparations are underway, but production will begin in earnest after Death Stranding 2. We have strong experience with Sony Interactive Entertainment, having grown the action-espionage genre together for almost 30 years, and while most of our partnerships with Sony in the past have been for games, they also produce music and films, and this will definitely be a cooperative collaboration.”
We don’t expect this to be anything like Metal Gear, but this stealthy new announcement means that we will be keeping an eye on the Kojima website for more on both these upcoming games featured in the Kojima State of Play announcements.
