Krafton, the publisher behind the humungous PUBG, has announced an acquisition of Hi-Fi-Rush studio Tango Gameworks
At least one studio has dodged the big budget ban hammer today. Tango Gameworks is no longer property of Microsoft and its big green merger machine. The studio that designed the insatiably upbeat Hi-Fi Rush to screens has been bought by gaming giant Krafton. The brand behind the likes of PUBG or Dark and Darker Mobile announced the news last night stating that the takeover marks eths start of Krafton’s Global expansion.
Anybody who is worried that their copy of Hi-Fi Rush might vanish from game pass or online marketplaces can rest assured that the business move means Krafton now hold the rights to the blistering musical RPG. It seems set to remain on Steam, at a 40% discount too! This isn’t the only IP that Tango Gameworks have worked on. The back catalog includes the likes of survival horror titles The Evil Within and The Evil Within 2, and the action-adventure game Ghostwire: Tokyo.
While plenty of these are oldies, they are still widely played. Krafton has promised no impact to the existing titles or staff that are no longer under the Xbox gaming banner. In a statement, Krafton confirmed that:
“As part of this strategic agreement, KRAFTON intends to collaborate with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks, allowing the talented team to continue developing the Hi-Fi RUSH IP and explore future projects. KRAFTON intends to support the Tango Game Works team to continue its commitment to innovation and delivering fresh and exciting experiences for fans.”
This seems believable. The acquisition of team tango gives the new South Korean owner a capable studio with experience crafting titles and genres that it doesn’t have in its portfolio of mobile first adventures. Hi-Fi Rush 2 seems way more likely today.
