League Of Legends’ Wild Rift Is Coming To Console And Mobile

Get Ready For a Wild Rift. Riot Games has just announced that they are bringing their smash hit MOBA to consoles and mobile platforms and it will be here next year.

Unveiled at last night’s 10th Anniversary celebrations, the news of Wild Rift is a major milestone in the life of League of Legends. Since smashing onto the PC gaming scene back in 2009, League has amassed over 8 million daily users. Now it is set to make a move into the rest of the gaming space. As well as dropping a trailer for this translation, Riot confirmed that Wild Rift will not be a direct copy and paste of the PC original. While the game looks like it will continue to feature the same core gameplay as the MOBA classic, there are a few obvious changes.

“Wild Rift is not a port of LoL on PC,” confirmed Riot Games. “It is a new game built from scratch to ensure it is a polished, legitimate LoL experience that’s worth players’ time.”

The introduction of a twin-stick control system is just one of the major changes that will be immediately obvious for players picking up the game on a new platform but we wouldn’t jump on board too soon. The company, who is owned by China’s Tencent, is firmly focused on bringing the mobile version of the game to on the go gamers by the end of next year. Unfortunately, we do not have a final date for the deployment of this on console platforms. I wouldn’t hold your breath for this. Take a quick look around the Riot games job postings and you’ll find plenty of console experts needed at this time and this does make sense given the size of the eastern mobile market to games companies.

Wild Rift isn’t the only announcement that Riot made last night either. We know that Team Fight Tactics, an auto battler title, is due to come to mobile platforms at the start of 2020 and a few other unnamed additions crept in. Projects A, L, and F are in the works but whether they make it live or suffer a Titan fate, we will have to see.
